About Us

What We Do

Abolish the Electoral College endorses the position that the quickest way to achieve replacement of the Electoral College is to focus on passage of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC). However, this will take a sustained effort over many years, so we are working to build a long term, sustainable grassroots organization committed to electoral reform that supports progressive voting rights.

Abolish the Electoral College will seek out and support candidates at all levels of our government, but especially candidates and elected leaders in our state legislative bodies, who support passage of the NPVIC. We will support candidates and elected officials that are committed to supporting progressive voting rights while fighting back against the onslaught of voter suppression and electoral subversion efforts in recent years.

Abolish the Electoral College also seeks to develop meaningful partnerships with organizations who believe that electoral reform is long overdue and support strong, progressive voting rights efforts. Only through working together on a large, unified, and well-organized scale will we be able to defeat attacks on our fundamental right to vote.

We believe in a multi-pronged effort that will ultimately abolish the electoral college, support voting rights champions at all levels of our government and defeat voter suppression measures that are running rampant in our states.

As a way of reforming our electoral systems, we believe that more participation from our citizens, not LESS, is the true way to build a strong and lasting democracy. Therefore Abolish the Electoral College will support candidates, organizations and initiatives that support increased access to voting and full participation in our elections, register qualified citizens to vote and defeat efforts to undermine our democracy through voter suppression efforts and partisan gerrymandering.

Our Priorities

Abolish and reform the electoral college system by supporting passage of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact at the state level.

Support candidates and allied organizations who commit to electoral reform and voting rights to achieve full participation in our elections.

Support initiatives like the recent 2020 Colorado initiative that affirmed their state legislature's decisions to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

Protect the right to vote by supporting common sense solutions and organizations working hard to increase access to voting and ensure our elections are accessible, fair and secure.

We support solutions like:

  • Passage of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact
  • Passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act
  • Passage of the Freedom to Vote Act
  • Same day voter registration
  • No excuse absentee voting
  • Online voter registration
  • Automatic voter registration
  • Mobile voting options
  • At least 30 days of early voting
  • Full restoration of the Voting Rights Act
  • Eliminating rigorous voter ID laws
  • Restored voting rights for convicted felons that have completed their sentences

We believe that reforming the electoral college and our voting systems is up to us, and will require a committed organization of grassroots donors and activists committed to a sustained years-long effort and a multi-pronged strategy.

It truly is up to us, so please, sign up today and join us as we work to protect our fundamental, constitutionally protected right to vote and Abolish the Electoral College and replace it with a system that respects the one person, one vote, every vote matters, principals that our nation deserves!
